Hand Corrected Orthotics
It started over 24 years ago...
Having recently arrived from Vietnam, the son of a farmer, Dr. Tim Nguyen was a student of podiatric medicine in San Diego. While spending many late nights learning English, studying and working two other jobs, Dr. Nguyen learned to make orthotics for other DPM's.
Working in his garage, Dr. Nguyen perfected his laboratory environment inventing many of the machines and techniques used by other labs today. With superior design, a keen and relentless eye for detail and quality, Dr. Nguyen soon won clients and business from several local Podiatrists.
As Dr. Nguyen completed his DPM degree and certification and started his practice, he expanded his business and began training apprentices in the art of making hand-corrected orthotics.
Today, a team of experienced craftsman works in a professional labora...
System Rx Orthotics
After 20 years of making hand corrected orthotics for thousands of patients, Dr. Nguyen discovered that a very small percentage of the orthtoics he was making for clients required gross modification or accommodation. But, even though the corrections were very minor, the amount of time and labor spent casting, hand shaping and molding polypropelene was the same for each pair.
In an effort to offer a less expensive and equally effective solution to clients and their patients, Dr. Nguyen developed a revolutionary casting and correction process which produces high quality and individualized orthotics shells suitable for treatment of over 95% of all foot pathology requiring orthtoic support as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
System Rx is not a digital or computerized process. Rather, it allows for minimal positive cast correction to be made on pre-existing positive casts. The minimal adjustments are made by hand to meet the required amount of correction of the actual negative casts that were taken from the patients’ feet.
System Rx orthotic shells are compressed from the corrected original patient casts. The shells are still perfected and adjusted by hand, one at a time, but using the Sytem Rx Process when possible Poditech can reduce overall lab time and material costs, which allows us to pass the savings on to DPM's and their clients.
With Sytem Rx, DPM's can save over 38% of lab fee. For example, a pair of System-RX orthotics with heel posts, plantar filling, full length single layer Spenco top cover and vinyl bottom cover is only $59 compared to $94 a pair of handcrafted orthotics*.
NOTE: System Rx Orthotics are not suitable for patients with severely deformed feet. When negative molds are received, they are reviewed by Dr. Nguyen prior to any production. In some cases, Poditech may recommend Hand Corrected orthotics over System Rx orders.
*Prices may be less subject to volume discounts.
